Carbon Steel Pipe is a tubular product made from carbon steel, classified by manufacturing process into seamless pipe and welded pipe. It is widely used for conveying water, steam, petroleum products, natural gas and other fluids, as well as for structural and mechanical applications.

Product Description

Carbon Steel Pipe is mainly composed of carbon and iron, with carbon content generally not exceeding 2%. Based on carbon content, it is classified as low-carbon steel (≤0.25%), medium-carbon steel (0.25–0.60%) and high-carbon steel (0.60–1.00%). By manufacturing method, pipes are divided into seamless and welded types. Seamless pipe is produced from solid round billets through piercing, rolling or drawing, with no weld seam, suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature service. Welded pipe is made by rolling and welding steel plate or strip, with lower cost, suitable for general fluid conveyance.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between seamless and welded carbon steel pipes?

A: Seamless pipe is produced from a solid round billet by piercing and rolling, with no weld seam, suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature service. Welded pipe is made by rolling and welding steel plate or strip, with lower cost, suitable for general fluid conveyance and structural use.

Q: How to select the right carbon steel pipe for a project?

A: Selection depends on the conveyed medium, working pressure, temperature and installation environment. For high-temperature service, ASTM A106 is commonly specified. For general fluid service, ASTM A53 or JIS G 3452 can be considered. For low-temperature service, ASTM A333 is the appropriate choice. The pipe size and wall thickness are determined by flow rate and pressure design.

Q: What should be noted when carbon steel pipe is used in corrosive environments?

A: Carbon steel has limited corrosion resistance. In media containing carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide or other corrosive components, corrosion may occur. In such service, stainless steel or corrosion protection measures such as internal coating or lining should be selected. Regular inspection and maintenance are also recommended for long-term service.
